Varsity boys fall to Martinsville

SoVaNow.com / March 25, 2013
The Halifax County High School varsity boys soccer team dropped a tough decision to Martinsville, 4-2, on a very cold night.

Martinsville led 3-0 before the half and 4-0 into the second half before HCHS tried to mount a comeback.

The Comets scored two goals in the second half. A third goal was nullified due to another Halifax player being offsides.

“We had our chances in the second half but fell too far behind. Our first half possession wasn’t very good and Martinsville controlled the game early,” said Comet coach Frank Shealy.

“We just couldn’t put touches together and turned the ball over repeatedly. The second half was much better,” said Shealy.

Halifax’s Kyle Lacks scored on a pass from Keith Crews in the 54th minute and Evin Morrison scored in the 72nd minute on a long shot outside on a pass from Erik Gomez.

Morrison scored again in the 76th minute but the goal did not count because of the offsides call.

Martinsville scored in the 20th, 28th and 35th minutes of the first half and the 44th minute in the second half. All of their goals came from passes to unmarked people in the box.

Martinsville had 13 shots, four saves and three corner kicks. Halifax had six shots, 10 saves and three corner kicks.
