Lady Comets get easy win
SoVaNow.com / April 15, 2013The Halifax County High School varsity softball squad kept its momentum moving forward Saturday night with an 11-3 win over Person County.
The Lady Comets “played well today as a whole - the momentum is starting to get going in the right direction,” coach Melanie Saunders said.
HCHS enjoyed solid pitching from its top two mound performers.
Courtney Epps started pitching and pitched the first four innings. Taylor Barnes finished the game
Halifax got solid offensive contributions from Megan Puckett, Barnes and KyeNeisha Logan.
HCHS made a move to bolster its lineup and its overall athleticism.
“We pulled KyeNeisha Logan up from jayvee to play with us. She will definitely help us in the outfield with her speed,” said Saunders.
HCHS has an important week ahead in the Western Valley District, starting with its toughest rival in recent seasons.
“This was a good game to get us going and ready for Franklin County on the road (Tuesday). That is a big game and we need to go there with our focus on. Franklin has good pitching and solid hitters. We have to go there with momentum up and aggressive (hitting) right off the bat,” said Saunders.
