Girls finish second in district

The Bluestone girls volleyball team wrapped up a second place berth in the James River District tournament with a strong finish last week in league action.

The Lady Barons defeated Randolph-Henry and Buckingham to close out the regular season in second place behind Goochland. As the #2 team in the district tournament, Bluestone will play the first round game on their home floor tomorrow, Nov. 1 against seventh-ranked Cumberland.

The girls enjoyed a four-set match victory last week against Randolph-Henry, winning 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-14. Against the Lady Statesmen, Bluestone got a lift from Kelsey Pruett with three aces and four kills, and Carmen Sturdifen with an impressive 14 kills.

The Barons girls also prevailed three games to two in match play Thursday against Buckingham on Senior Night. It was the final regular season game for the volleyball seniors on their home court, although Bluestone will be back in action in Skipwith this week for the district tournament.

Also last week, the Bluestone girls jayvees beat Randolph-Henry 25-21 and 25-8, and also downed Buckingham 25-6 and 25-17.
