Freshmen suffer tough loss

SoVaNow.com / September 05, 2013
The Halifax County High School freshman football team sustained a tough loss at Gretna Thursday.

The Comets fell 28-26, in overtime, after a stirring rally by the Comets that forced overtime.

“We came out a little flat. We did pretty good, holding our own. We kind of fell behind, 20-6,” said coach Mike Lloyd.

Then, in the fourth period, HCHS came alive.

“The boys took it upon themselves and said, we’ll see what we can do with this thing.”

James Smith Jr. scored all of Halifax’s touchdown, including a kickoff return for a score.

Smith is “definitely going to be a big plus. He’s the kind of kid you can stick about anywhere you want, and he can play that spot,” said Lloyd. “He’s just an athlete.”
