Comets fall to Tunstall
SoVaNow.com / December 17, 2012The Halifax County High School wrestling team has a long break before the start of the Person High School Rocket Invitational on Jan. 5.
In its most recent action, the Comets fell to Tunstall at home, 51-26, on Wednesday night.
Halifax had several strong efforts, as Tommie Hairston pinned his opponent in 2:54 at 182 and Zack Carlson decisioned his opponent, 12-9, at 113. Spenser Conner also pinned his opponent in 1:43 at 126, and Ethan Collie won by pinfall at 132 in 1:01.
Halifax 160-pounder James Anderson won by major decision over his Tunstall opponent, 10-0.
Otherwise, Tunstall dominated the event, with one exception. Comet 120-pounder Krunal Patel lost a very tough 8-7 decision to his Tunstall opponent.
In earlier action, HCHS won four of five matches to finish second in the Tunstall Invitational Tournament on Dec. 8.
HCHS defeated Bassett, 42-27, in the opening round and then defeated Cary, N.C. Academy, 43-42. A tiebreaker had to determine the winner in that very competitive match.
HCHS then defeated Greensboro Day School, 60-18. The Comets fell, 63-16, to Tunstall. HCHS rallied for second place in the overall tournament with a 48-36 win over Bartlett-Yancey High School.
