Comet swimmers sweep Bassett

The Halifax County High School swim teams swept Bassett Thursday in Piedmont district action. The girls’ meet was closer, as Halifax picked up a 54-40 victory. The HCHS’ boys won easily, 70-23, in the meet action at the local YMCA.

“We had right many swimmers drop time, that’s a good sign of progression. That’s what we want to see this time of year. We had 16 female and 10 male swimmers drop time. Four of our relay teams swam their best time of the year,” said coach Shawn Torian.

Boys results:

The boys’ A relay team of Nick Rosche, Andrew Abbott, Keith Crews and Noah Stevens took first in the 200 meter medley relay in 2:10.46. The Comet B team was second, in 2:11.46.

Austin Lowe won the 200 meter free in 2:38.69, with Seth LaPorte second. Grey Henderson also won the 200 meter IM, in 2:55.20, with Collin Kashmer second. Noah Stevens won the 50 free in 27.65, with J. Gasperini second.

A. Abbott and Kashmer were 2-3 in the 100 fly. Stevens won the 100 free in 1:03.32 and Nick Rosche was second.

Grey Henderson won the 500 meter free in 5:31.56. Alex Tepper finished third. The Comets were 2-3 in the 200 meter free, and J. Gasperini won the 100 meter back in 1:17.21. Nick Rosche was second.

A. Abbott won the 100 meter breast in 1:25.13, with Keith Crews second. The Comets won the 400 meter free in 4:58.60. That relay team included LaPorte, Lowe, Alex Tepper and G. Henderson.

Girls results:

Gabbie Nelson won the 50 free in 32.23, with Anna Carole Cole second.

McKenzie Reynolds won the 100 fly in 1:45.84, with Reagan Carey third.

Nelson also won the 100 free in 1:16.78. Lexi Reaves was second. Caitlin Lacy won the 500 free in 5:29.52. Henderson was second.

The Comets won the 200 meter free relay in 2:20.32. Halifax was third in this event as well. The winning relay team included Cole, Nelson, Lexi Reaves and Gabbie Spainhour.

Reaves won the 100-meter back in 1:36.86. Prevette was second in the 100 meter breast, with Jules Prevette third. The Comets took the top two spots in the 400-meter free relay in 6:03.41, with the B team winning that relay. The A team took second. The B team included Baker, Abbie Howerton, Erin Baker and Hannah Saunders.

The Comets finished second and third in the 200 meter medley relay. Sydney Henderson was second in the 200 free, with Annamarie Baker third.

Hailey Prevette was second in the 200 meter IM.
