It starts with parents

Dear Viewpoint:

Part of the answer of how to gives to the local schools will have to start with a commitment from the Parents to solve this issue. The PTO (parent-teachers-organization) is already in place and organized and they are the only ones really who can make this work. The parents will have to share the load in being on duty at the school around the clock. Parents are already organized to do about anything they really want to, this is a MUST SITUATION, time to quit eating and meeting (some playing) and kick this thing in the bud. The President of the PTO needs to meet with all parents at each school, get a working plan into action, teachers will have to be involved and set the pace that this is a serious situation but we have met others challengers and this one can be handle also. The Sheriffs Dept. is already over loaded, but I am sure that the Sheriff will help in any way possible. Some parents and some teachers may have to be carry a gun and have authority to make arrest and etc. Many students are carried to school by parents that are already ahead of this situation, these get there early, could easily do the early hour security at several points of the school and the school ground property, parking lot, etc., other parents could relieve those on duty and make a big impact on this SECURITY SITUATION. It is not going away, many crack heads still on the street, we know some of them, but what can we do. Now is the time for the PTO to come out of the closet and hit the situation head on. It is better to be over safe than be short on safety. These are our kids, they deserve the best.
