Understandably for someone who grew up and spent a good part of his life in the Town of Halifax, my father in his later years would get quite sentimental about his contemporaries still living in town. Nothing cemented their renown quite like the connection to home. The mere mention of old Halifax buddies was usually enough to send my father into oratorical flights of fancy.

At a party this Saturday I ran into a friend who brought up a recent column of mine in which I vowed to keep this year’s candidate endorsements to a single sentence. He seemed pretty thankful. Most of us could probably use a little more excitement in our lives, and for the vast majority of Americans, long-winded editorial page pieces endorsing political candidates ain’t it.
