Mabel Johnson Mullins

Mabel Johnson Mullins, 85 of Clarksville, entered eternal rest Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Granville Medical Center, Oxford, N.C.

Mabel J. Mullins was born Oct. 19, 1927 to the late Jordon Watkins and Etta Puryear Johnson in Mecklenburg County. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County Public School and at an early age joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church. She was employed by Russell Stover Candy Company for 20 years before retiring. She was married to the late William D. Mullins Sr. in 1943. To this union five children were born.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son, William D. Mullins Jr. and a daughter, Ola J. Smith; one sister, Thelma W. Jackson; three brothers, Walter M. Johnson, William D. Watkins and Jordan Watkins Jr.

Cherishing her memories are three children, Robert E. Mullins Sr. (Bernetha), Emily Royster (Samuel) and Linda D. Hayes all of Clarksville, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Watkins (Rosa Lee), Samuel Watkins (Salley) of Brooklyn, N.Y., one sister, Geneva Jones, Queens, N.Y., one brother-in-law, Ernest Mullins; three sisters-in-law, Magnolia Mullins, Virginia Watkins and Shirley Johnson; a special family dear to her heart, Brenda, Calvin, Michael and Steve Moore and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 5, at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Clarksville, with Rev. Raymond Roberts Sr., officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends Friday evening at the funeral home.
