Lillie Gayles Goode

Lillie Gayles Goode, 98, of Richmond, and formerly of Chase City, entererd eternal rest Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Goode was born in Mecklenburg County, on Dec. 14, 1914 to the late Nathan and Lillie Gayles. She was a long time resident of Chase City, until her health began to fail. Lillie was educated in Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and after graduating she worked at Hampco Apparel for 51 years until she retired in 1986.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo Goode, five sisters, and four brothers.

Cherishing her memories are her daughter/niece, Virginia Bates Richmond, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, one great great-great grandchild; one sister-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and caregivers.


A funeral was held Monday, July 8, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, with Rev. Dr. Pamela C. Lee, officiating.  Burial followed in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
