He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran, an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as trustee-emeritus, and a retired employee of Mecklenburg Electric Co-op.
He was the widower of Nancy Smith Blackwell and preceded in death by his siblings, Leslie Blackwell, Janie B. Harris, Elbert Blackwell (twin) and Doris B. Bradsher.
He is survived by his son, Neal Blackwell of Centreville; brother, A. J. Blackwell of Oxford, N.C., sisters, Lena Mae Brownd and Marie Lewis of Raleigh, N.C.
A funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Oxford, N.C. at 3:30 p.m.
Friends were received at Wood Funeral Service Tuesday evening.
