Cyclists cruise for Congo awareness, make stop in Halifax County

These young cyclists, traveling from Florida to Maine to raise awareness about the plight of women and children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will meet the public when they come through the area on Tuesday. The community is invited to meet them during a dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation at about 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Mountain Road in Halifax, where they will spend the night.
The public is invited to have a casual potluck dinner with, and listen to a presentation from, a group of young adults (ages 21-28) who are biking from Florida to Maine to raise funds and awareness about the vicious acts of war that have left women broken and children orphaned in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The wading pool is in Isaiah's backyard; he and his mother, Mindy Holt, last week bid goodbye to his father, Allen Holt, who is being sent to Iraq with the National Guard. Proposed Halifax County meals tax slated to go to a vote

Following a closed session Monday night, the Halifax County Board of Supervisors requested that a meals tax referendum be placed on the November 2011 general election ballot.
