Vandalism, burglary at carwash ends in arrest

SoVaNow.com / September 09, 2013
David A. Rose, 56, of South Boston faces five felony and two misdemeanor counts following his arrest for a two-night vandalism spree at Double Bubbles carwash on Old Halifax Road.

Rose, who is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail with no bond, is alleged to have ripped out the coin machines from four bays at the carwash Friday and Saturday. Property damages over the two nights are estimated to total $14,000.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the coin machines.

South Boston Officer F.A. Powell was investigating leads from the Friday vandalism when the business was burglarized and the four bays broken into again on Saturday night. It was then that coin-operated devices were broken into.

After Officers Powell and Bush were able to get leads on the suspect, Powell got warrants for Rose’s arrest on Saturday.

Later that day, South Boston Police Cpl. M.W. Bowen located the suspect driving in the Westside area and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, holding Rose until Powell arrived to serve the warrants.

Rose has been charged with one felony count of possession of burglary tools, two felony counts of grand larceny, two felony charges of destruction of property (a coin operated machine) and two misdemeanor charges of tampering with or attempting to steal from a coin machine.

In other reports from the South Boston Police Department, 62 year old Gerald D. Edmonds of South Boston was charged with shoplifting on Sept. 3 by Officer F. A. Powell, and 29 year old Steve A Gregory, also of South Boston, was held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail until he sobered up after being charged with public drunkenness by Cpl. A Whitmore.
