Two crashes cause minor property damage

SoVaNow.com / March 28, 2013
Two Sunday morning crashescaused property damages, but only minor injuries.

At 10:30 a.m., a 2000 Freightliner FL250 operated by Jonathan A. Barbour 27, of Halifax ran off the right side of State Route 360 (Bethel Road) about two-tenths mile east of its intersection with State Route 749. The driver lost control of the vehicle, owned by Patient Transport, on the icy road. The vehicle came back from the right side and veered off to the left, overturning.

Both Barbour and a 21 year old passenger, James T. Lawhorn Jr., suffered only minor injuries and were transported for treatment before being released. Investigating Virginia State Trooper P. W. Leath placed no charges.

Shortly before that, at 10:20 a.m., Leath investigated an accident that occurred on State Route 360 (Mt. Road) some 300 feet west of State Route 665. Leath charged Mamie W. Tucker, 76, with failure to maintain control of the 2007 Mazda CX7 she was operating when it crossed the enter line of the highway, striking the 2006 Ford Fusion 2500 operated by Kelda S. Williams, 22, of South Boston.

Leath estimated damages to the Mazda at $4,000 while those to the Ford were set at $2,500. Neither driver was injured.
