Town Council committees to meet Tuesday

SoVaNow.com / May 27, 2013
South Boston Council committees will hold their monthly work session a day later than usual due to the Memorial Day holiday.

The Finance Committee meeting begins Tuesday afternoon at 5:45 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey Street, with Finance Director Erle Scott presenting the monthly financial statement.

Committee members will review the Town’s 2013-14 budget which totals some $9.5 million and calls for no tax or fee increases. The budget also includes no salary increases for town employees. Approval of the budget is expected at the regular monthly Council meeting on June 10.

The Current Issues committee, chaired by Councilman Bob Hughes, will review an update to the town’s zoning ordinance.

The committee also will receive an update from Town Manager Ted Daniel on the Poplar Creek ecoMod housing project located at the Poplar Creek Subdivision. Daniel also is expected to provide another update on the renovation of the Washington-Coleman community center.
