Soutb Boston sets emergency protocol

SoVaNow.com / March 13, 2014
South Boston Town Council on Monday night approved a revised emergency operations plan which must be updated every five years.

The plan lays out a legal and organizational basis for emergency operations in Halifax County and recovery from disasters.

South Boston Mayor Ed Owens is the designated director for the emergency operations plan, with town manager Ted Daniel tapped as the deputy director. South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips will serve as plan coordinator, with Deputy Chief Dwight Spangler as deputy coordinator.

The revised plan includes the creation of a citizen emergency response team (CERT), which will provide extra manpower in assisting Halifax County Emergency Services.

Following the short regular session Council went into closed session to begin the task of reviewing 36 applications which have been submitted for the advertised town manager position.

No action was taken following the closed session.
