Repairs get under way on Orgainsville Road

SoVaNow.com / August 13, 2014
VDOT Residency Administrator Billy Smith announced that work was slated to begin Monday, to repair Orgainsville Road near Trottenridge Road. He expects work to be completed and the road to reopen in about six to eight weeks.

Orgainsville Road has been closed after the pavement washed out in late May during a torrential downpour. A storm drainage pipe under the street collapsed and caused a large sinkhole to form under the road.

A driver, Willie Lyons, 59 of Clarksville, travelling on dark rain-soaked thoroughfare around 2:10 a.m. on May 16, never saw the hole that swallowed him and his 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. Lyons was rescued by members of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department. He and his car were swept into the woods by the onrushing waters of Rocky Branch Creek that flowed through the drainage pipe.

Smith said part of the delay in working on the road was the wait for a new storm pipe to go under the road.
