One killed in Saturday crash

SoVaNow.com / February 19, 2014

A Dinwiddie motorist died Saturday in a car crash on Goodes Ferry Road in South Hill, prompting an investigation to determine if wintry road conditions played a part.

The crash took place around 1:15 p.m. as a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by Princess Lee Rhodes, 34, of North Dinwiddie, was traveling west on Goodes Ferry Road, less than a mile west of Interstate 85. According to Virginia State Police, the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road, overcorrected and veered off to the left before striking a tree and overturning.

Rhodes, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, died at the scene. Her 13-year-old passenger, Hannah N. Rhodes, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to State Police, and it remains unclear if road conditions factored into the mishap.
