No further clues in death near Virgilina

SoVaNow.com / July 18, 2013

The body of a 43-year-old county male has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond to determine the cause of death.

According to Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark, the body of Arthur Ernie Sydnor was found around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon by a relative who had come to check on the man. Clark said no one had been in contact with him since he talked with a friend on Saturday morning, July 13.

Sydnor’s body was found about 50 feet behind his home, near the edge of a wooded area at 1213 White Oak Fork Road in the Virgilina community. Sydnor lived alone, Clark said.

Clark said there were no signs of any type of wound from shots or stabbings. “We simply don’t know what happened to him and will have to await the medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death,” Clark said.

Late yesterday, Clark said authorities had not gotten any additional information about the circumstances of Sydnor’s death.

Investigator Jeff Burton of the Sheriff’s Department is leading the case after deputies and members of the Virginia State Police responded to the scene on Sunday afternoon.

A funeral service for Sydnor has been set for Friday, July 19 at 3 p.m. at White Oak Fork Baptist Church.
