Nathalie man pleads guilty to selling pit bull for fighting
SoVaNow.com / June 28, 2011One of the men charged in the raid on what police said was a drug-and-pit-bull-fighting operation in Nathalie in April pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to one dog charge.
Jermaine Thaxton, pleaded guilty to conspiring to sell a dog for the purpose of having the dog participate in an animal-fighting venture in interstate commerce. The maximum sentence he faces is five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000.
The hearing for co-defendant Jonathan “Scooter” Williams, 26, is being rescheduled, said Brian McGinn, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western Virginia of District.
Thaxton’s hearing was held in Danville. A trial for a third man charged in connection with the raid is set for August, and a fourth man has unrelated charges pending in Halifax County Circuit Court.
