Mother’s Day celebrated at Halifax Farmers Market

SoVaNow.com / May 02, 2013
The Second Saturday with Southside Master Gardeners will begin on May 11 at the Halifax Farmer’s Market and continue until Sept. 14 from 8 a.m.-11 a.m..

On the first Second Saturday, May 11, Master Gardeners will be available to help children pot plants as Mother’s Day gifts.

All supplies will be provided free of charge. This is a great opportunity to introduce your child or children to the world of plants and gardening and for them to give Mom a gift they made themselves. A lot of folks think nothing tastes better than a homegrown tomato. For a gardener, it is very satisfying to look out in the garden and see your crop of tomatoes growing tall and full in their sturdy cages.

If your cages have seen better days and need repair, bring them to the Halifax Farmer’s Market May 11 to be rewelded by a Master Gardener. Again, this service is provided free of charge. As usual on Second Saturdays, the Master Gardener Help Desk will be available from 8 a.m.-1 a.m. to answer any gardening questions you may have.

If you are interested in the Master Gardener program or have questions, contact Bill McCaleb at the Halifax Extension Office at (434) 476-2147, visit http://www.ssmga.org or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
