Lunenburg seeks to split off from library system

SoVaNow.com / March 12, 2014
Lunenburg County administrator Tracey Gee asked members of the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors to consider moving ahead with plans for Lunenburg County libraries to withdraw from the Southside Regional Library system.

Gee said several recent decisions, chief among them was the move to cull older books from the library shelves in Victoria and Kenbridge, upset a number of the library patrons, They asked the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors to look into plans to create a library system independent of the Southside Regional Library.

Gee asked Mecklenburg County Supervisors to explore a dissolution timeline and the fiscal feasibility of such a withdrawal.

“It is not an issue between Mecklenburg and Lunenburg” said Gee, saying instead the move to separate is seen as a “way to keep our library healthy.”

Gee said whatever the decision, Lunenburg County officials want to be fair and considerate of employees who may be affected any breakup of the Southside Regional Library.
