Library board to meet new director

SoVaNow.com / January 13, 2014

The new director of the library system, Jay Stephens, will lead his first meeting of the Halifax County-South Boston Library Board Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Halifax branch.

Stephens, who comes to the community fresh from working for the Henderson, N.C. public library system, succeeds Joe Zappacosta, who left the local system for a position in Danville.

Under new business, board members will discuss the Bibliostat state report as well as proposed policy changes and additions. They will also begin deliberations on the upcoming FY2014-2015 budget.

The library board also will discuss the possibility of housing the local law library which will be moved from the Halifax Courthouse if the county bar association approves the relocation.

Stephens is expected to give a statistical update on library usage before public comment is invited. The board is later expected to enter into closed session to discuss personnel issues.
