SoVaNow.com / October 27, 2011
With hunting season right around the corner, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department has already started receiving calls in reference to spotlighting and trespassing.

Back during the night of Oct. 12,

local Conservation Police Officer Brandon Harris was working an area off Turbeville Road where complaints of that nature were becoming frequent.

As a result of Harris’ investigation, Dwayne Edward Long, age 36, of 195 Traynham Grove Road, Alton was arrested by Officer Harris and charged with the following offenses: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; hunting during closed season; trespassing to hunt on posted property; operating an ATV without written permission; hunting without a state license; hunting without big game stamps; taking game during closed season; hunting unlawfully; and possession of marijuana.

A .22 caliber rifle and drug paraphernalia were seized at the time of the arrest. Long is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax awaiting trial.
