How much does a vote cost?
SoVaNow.com / May 08, 2014Voting Tuesday for South Boston Town Council generated sparse interest as only 207 people went to the polls, out a 5,054 registered voters in town. The three candidates, all of whom are currently serving on Council, were unopposed for their seats.
Coleman Speece, vying for his fifth term on Council, received 70 votes of confidence, the same number as Bill Snead, who was seeking a third term. Receiving 67 votes was Winston Harrell, who was appointed by Council members back in December to fill the seat vacated by the election of then-Councilman Ed Owens as mayor.
Harrell was running for his first full four-year term on Council.
Halifax County Registrar Heather Harding said she does not have the final cost of Tuesday’s election, but estimated that each vote cost about $25.
CommentsDoes anyone think holding and election for the Town of SoBo was worth the cost. I say let the Mayor appoint the council since the voters have no intrest and elect the mayor every 6 years.
