Halifax County Supes host public hearing tonight

SoVaNow.com / March 03, 2014
Halifax County Supervisors have one public hearing on their agenda for this evening’s regular monthly meeting That hearing focuses on a request from the W. A. Stratton Construction Company for a conditional use permit which will allow Lee Pulliam Performance to operate a race shop at 2103 Alton Post Office Road.

In a letter accompanying the application Pulliam writes that he recently purchased his grandmother’s farm in Alton and he wants to expand his business and bring more customers to Halifax County by operating the shop there.

The Board is also expected to set public hearings on two more requests for conditional use permits, one filed by Cellco Partners for a telecommunications tower to be located on the south side of James D. Hagood Highway, about one-third mile west of its intersection with Rodgers Chapel Road and the other by Denis and David Hudson for a bed and breakfast operation at 14242 River Road.

Supervisors will also get an update from representatives of Davenport and Company on activities, approval and the schedule of events necessary for Halifax County to proceed with getting financing for Phase 1 of its Facilities Renovation Projects. The two projects which are moving forward are the renovation of the County Administration Building which will be the new location for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department and the renovation of the Mary Bethune Industrial Arts building which will be the temporary location for the court system.

Supervisors will also decide on a date at which to interview candidates to fill the seat in ED#3 vacated by Supervisor Earl Womack. As of the morning of February 21, three residents had submitted applications stating their interest in serving on the governing body.

The new member needs to be appointed by March 18.

A representative of the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service is expected to report to the Board on its activities, programs and services planned for the coming year.

Several appointments need to be made including one on the County Planning Commission to fill the seat being vacated by ED#6 Planner Clark Graves who has asked to be replaced after serving 25 years on the Commission.
