Local law enforcement officers, South Boston Chief James Binner, Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark and Halifax Police Chief Kevin Lands are asking citizens to join them on Tuesday, July 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Italian Delight to raise funds for National Night Out.

According to Kim Carson, president of the NNO committee this is the second fundraising event of the year with the first being held at Burger King in Centerville on June 4, 2014.

According Binner and Clark it is time once again to start preparing for National Night Out. This is an exciting time of year for the South Boston Police Department, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and local public safety organizations which invite citizens to join them on August 5, 2014 at 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Tuck Dillard Stadium located at Halifax County Middle School.

Nationwide this will be the 31st annual National Night Out and in Halifax County, it will be the 15th annual event.

The National Night Out committee is a group of volunteers who work each year to coordinate this event. One of their main goals is to give residents and local law enforcement and public safety organizations the feel of bonding, moral support and joining to fight crime in the community.

A second goal is for local nonprofit organizations to provide information to the public about their organization.

According to Carson over the past few years, the local National Night Out committee has given away the following:

$4,000 in scholarship funds

Over $1,500 in school supplies to the local school system to help students who cannot afford these supplies for themselves

Bicycles and tricycles along with helmets

Child safety seats

According to law enforcement heads, additional information will be provided as the National Night Out committee finalizes the event.
