Four injured in two-vehicle crash

A Sunday afternoon two-vehicle crash has left four people injured, three of them passengers in a 1994 Dodge Caravan with the driver, of the Dodge Jerome L. Jones of Halifax also injured.

The accident occurred on US 501 at its intersection with State Route 645 above the Volens community at 1:30 p.m.

A 17 year old juvenile from Nathalie, driving a 1999 Oldsmobile, was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way when he pulled from the intersection, striking the Oldsmobile. The juvenile suffered minor injuries, but was not transported for treatment.

In addition to Jones those injured and transported for treatment were 42 year old Collette P. Howard, Joe Howard Jr., 61, and 60 year old Tersea Howard.

Investigating Virginia State Trooper D. W. Lacks estimated damages to both vehicles at $1,500 each.

Later on Sunday at 10:20 p.m. 45 year old Mark E. Medley of Scottsburg was charged with driving under the influence when the 2000 Nissan Maxima he was operating on US 360 about one-half mile east of its intersection with State Route 729 went off the right side of the roadway.

It first struck a sign, then a ditch before rolling over multiple times and coming to rest against a tree.

The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered only minor injuries, but was transported for treatment.

Investigating Trooper J. A. Williamson estimated damages to the Nissan at $3,000.
