Five injured in Clarksville crash

SoVaNow.com / November 06, 2013
A two-car crash in Clarksville Saturday night resulted in a family of five being transported to Halifax Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Betty Nelson of Clarksville was driving in the eastbound lane of Highway 58, attempting to turn left onto Virginia Avenue, when her vehicle collided with a Chevy Cavalier heading west on Highway 58, according to police reports.

The driver of the Chevrolet was Lakeisha Roberts of Chase City.

Nelson was charged with failure to yield, according to an accident report filed by Trooper J. Wilmoth of the Virginia State Police.

Nelson was uninjured, but Roberts, her husband Kwaman Stephenson and three minor children, all passengers in Roberts’ car, sustained serious injuries. They were taken to Halifax Regional Hospital for treatment.

Wilmoth estimated the damage to Nelson’s Chevy SUV at about $2,000. “The Cavalier was totaled,” Wilmoth said, estimating the damage to that car at $5,000.

Alcohol was not a factor in the mishap, and all parties were wearing their seatbelts, Wilmoth reported.
