DUI charged after driver fells utility pole, fence
SoVaNow.com / March 06, 2013Robert Francher DeGrandcourt, 62, of Clarksville was charged with driving under the influence after he was located near the scene of an accident on College Avenue, early Sunday morning.
According to Clarksville Police Chief Ricky Wilkinson, DeGrandcourt was heading south on College Street around 2:15 a.m. when his vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck a mail box near the road at 126 College Street. He then proceeded to strike a utility pole at 128 College Street before running through a fence, crossing the yard, and striking a parked car at 130 College Street.
The car, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am is registered to Ray Oliver.
According to the report filed by the investigating officer, DeGrandcourt showed no sign of injury.
At this time, the exact amount of the damages to the vehicles and the property is not known. The mishap destroyed the utility pole and knocked out power in parts of Clarksville before service was restored.
In 2007 DeGrandcourt pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after having been declared a habitual offender. At that time, he was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary, with all but one year and one month suspended. He also paid court costs of $1,570.
CommentsIs the judicial system waiting for him to kill someone before serious action is taken against this 'habitual offender?'
