Driver charged with pulling in front of logging truck

SoVaNow.com / February 21, 2013
A 21 year old South Boston driver was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way in a crash Monday at 3:22 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 92 and US 360.

Kaila Miller was the driver of a red 1999 Ford Mustang which pulled out of State Route 92 to cross US 360, heading into State Route 720. The Mustang was struck by a 1996 International tractor trailer loaded with logs and headed east on 360. The logging truck was operated by William Hess, 48, of Scottsburg, who was not injured in the accident.

Both Miller and a 16 year old passenger were transported to the local emergency room for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.

Investigating Virginia State Trooper D.H. Hess declared the Mustang a total loss and estimated damages to the truck, which belonged to Nelson Logging Company of Oxford, NC, at some $15,000.

An estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the truck during the accident and was cleaned up by a hazardous waste materials crew.
