Don’t let ‘em get your goat

South Boston News
Loose goats stopped for a bite to eat as they meandered through downtown Chase City this week.

Chase City Police officers Joey Carey, Jr. and Andrew “Mike” Jordan spent a couple hours on Monday herding goats that somehow made it into the downtown area. The officers were able to corral the four farm animals near Third Street by the Southside Roller Mill while the police searched for the owner.

Doug Blanton, who heads Mecklenburg County Animal Control, said that his office was asked to retrieve the goats, but “before we got there, someone called back and cancelled the request, saying the owner had come for the goats.”

Blanton did not know who owned the goats.

A spokesperson for the Chase City Police Department said that it was her understanding that the owner never came forward.

Carey and Jordan, who were both off work on Tuesday, could not be reached for comment.
