Two Washington, D.C. residents have been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

According to Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark, Deputy T.H. Clarke was traveling west on Philpott Road on Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. when his radar was alerted to an oncoming vehicle traveling 94 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy Clarke was able to stop the vehicle at Sheetz with the assistance of Corporal Mitch Bowen of the South Boston Police Department.

The driver was identified as Zachary Gill and the passenger as Matthew Woodard, both from Washington, D.C.

After approaching the vehicle, Deputy Clarke detected a strong odor of marijuana from their vehicle, according to reports. Upon investigation, Clarke discovered a large bag of marijuana with some divided into individual prepackaged bags. He also found $4,666 in currency.

Both subjects were placed under arrest. Warrants for possession with intent to distribute marijuana were issued and served on both subjects. Gill and Woodward were transported to Blue Ridge Regional Jail where they are being held on a secured bond.
