Chase City comes to standstill as lights go out
SoVaNow.com / March 06, 2013About 2,200 Dominion customers in the Chase City area were without power during the day Tuesday due to “equipment problems,” according to Daisy Pridgen, spokesperson for the utility.
Customers began reporting the service loss around 6:00 a.m. Crews were immediately dispatched to the area to begin with repairs. The exact cause of the outage was not known. However, Pridgen said the power crews were in the process of energizing a transformer around 3:30 p.m.
The outage forced the closings of banks, convenience stores, downtown businesses and the Chase City post office as activity in town came to a halt without power.
Pridgen said she expected service to be restored to all customers by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
John Lee, CEO of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative, said none of MEC’s customers were impacted by the outage.
