To Kill A Mockingbird prepares for opener

South Boston News
THEY HEAR EVERYTHING - Halifax County Little Theatre's production of the classic story "To Kill a Mockingbird" is in the final preparations for opening night, Nov. 18. The children of Atticus Finch listen and watch everything as the many characters in the play interact and clash over the trial of an innocent man. Walter Cunningham (Andy Rice) and Mrs. Dubose (Karyn Johnson) are two of the Maycomb County folks whose interesting storylines complicate, yet somehow clarify, the children's understanding of what is happening. "I first read the novel twenty-five years ago in high school," Rice said. "I watched the movie a few years later and that reignited my interest in the story. I then re-read the novel and have loved it since. I think it has an important message that all the characters have a part in communicating." The show runs for seven performances, including two Sunday matinees, and tickets can be purchased online at HCLT.org or at The Prizery box office. HCLT season brochures and season tickets are also now available.

However, Halifax County is still on the OPB’s waiting list to carry out the study, which is estimated to cost $110,000, mostly borne by the state.
