Beth Car Baptist relay center for Operation Christmas Child
SoVaNow.com / October 23, 2013Christmas will be arriving early in Halifax as Beth Car Baptist Church once again is serving as the relay center for Operation Christmas Child. This will be our ninth year as a relay center and we are very excited to have the privilege of collecting these gifts for needy children all over the world.
Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas project and Halifax residents will help send more than 10 million shoe boxes to children in 100 countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine and poverty.
Operation Christmas Child, a project of international relief and Christian evangelism, is a part of Samaritans Purse, headed by Franklin Graham. It is a non-denominational organization which reaches out to needy children worldwide giving them a sense of joy and love.
The shoe boxes collected at Beth Car will be taken to the collection center in Danville at the Pittsylvania County Baptist Association office. There they are put in trucks and sent to Charlotte, NC for sorting, packing and sent out into the world using whatever means necessary – sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, camels, even dog sleds – to much suffering children around the world.
Please consider packing a shoe box, whether preprinted, plastic or a covered shoe box with items listed in the special brochure available on the website: http://www.samaritanspurse.org or you can call 434-476-7849 for more information.
The relay center at Beth Car Baptist Church at 25 Church Street in Halifax will be open Nov. 18-25, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 25 from 9-11 a.m.
