Clarksville Players hold auditions for fall comedy, ‘Play On’

SoVaNow.com / July 03, 2013
Auditions for “Play On!”, the fall production of the Clarksville Community Players, will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 22-23 at 7 p.m.. at the Clarksville Fine Arts Center. Before that time, anyone interested in reading the play may check out a script at the Clarksville library. Director Nancy Barden needs three men and seven women for the production.

If you want to audition but will be away on July 22-23, please call the director at 434-738-5383 to arrange a convenient time prior to those dates.

This is the hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from the ditzy playwright who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does.

When the playwright decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theater during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax of this thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter.

Roles of the stage manager, director, character actor and actress, the villain, playwright, and sound manager are of any adult age. One character, Smitty, has to look like a high school girl, and Billy and Violent need to look as though they are twenty-somethings or in their late teens.

Rehearsals will begin Aug. 12, continuing each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. until opening of the play, Oct. 4-6. Because all players are in every act, it will be difficult to rehearse with someone absent. Therefore, please be prepared to commit to all rehearsals with a minimum of absences.

Anyone who would like to work backstage in any capacity is encouraged to attend auditions and meet the producer, Jeannie Neal. For any further information, call 434-738-5383.
